As the ASHRAE Turkish Chapter, we provided support to the “Indoor Air Quality in Schools and Student Living Areas” summit organized by TOBB with 3 Distinguished Lectures (DL). ASHRAE representatives Ashrea General Manager Brian Monk, Former Ashrae Head Christopher Muller, and Ashrae Associate Member Marwa Zaatari participated in the summit as speakers, providing insights into global developments in this field.
The TOBB Turkey HVAC Council, with its vision of “contributing to the improvement of public health by enhancing indoor air quality” and its mission to “determine indoor air quality parameters to protect public health in indoor environments and enable individuals to carry out physical and mental activities healthily, taking into account energy efficiency and environmental impacts, providing practical measures that stakeholders in the HVAC sector will benefit from,” has put the topic of “improving indoor air quality in schools” on its agenda. They have prepared the “Ventilation – Policy Document Against Biological and Chemical Indoor Air Pollution in Schools from a COVID-19 Perspective,” “Indoor Air Quality Posters,” and “Health Effects of Indoor Air Pollution in Schools and Threshold Values Book.” They have also started working on the “Indoor Air Quality Regulations in Schools.”
In order to evaluate their preparations, convey the importance of indoor air quality in schools to relevant industry representatives, gather opinions/suggestions, and create a roadmap, the TOBB Turkey HVAC Council hosted the International “Indoor Air Quality in Schools and Student Living Areas” Summit for the Turkey HVAC Sector from September 19th to 21st, 2023.
